Retired AFL Superstar Puts Rowville Under 17's Through Their Paces

Recently retired AFL star Steven Milne took training on Tuesday night, giving our Under 17’s an insight into what it takes to play at the highest level.

A good friend of Specialist coach Mark Wheatley, Milne was extremely impressed with the standard and work ethic within the playing group. “It’s great to see a young team train with intensity!” something that Milne stresses to any group he talks to. “Setting a high standard at training will only benefit you come match day and obviously that is happening if you knocked off the ladder leader last week” Milne quipped.

“Steven is such a focused sportsman in anything he does” Wheatley added. The two play cricket together in the DDCA league for club HSD, both playing in last season’s premiership Turf 3 team. “Steven always relates to work ethic and how there is no ‘MAGIC WAND’ that you wave to get to the elite level. Just a lot of damn hard work”

Milne is currently playing for Strathfieldsaye Football Club in the Bendigo Football League where he currently is on top of the goal kicking table with 35 after 6 rounds.

Steven is also coaching his son’s under 13 side and appreciated the opportunity to take charge of an older group.

On behalf of the Under 17’s and Rowville Football Club we thank Steven for taking the time out of his busy schedule, his passion for the game definitely left an impression on a group of dedicated young men hungry for success.
